Personal Background
Annie is a famous portrait photographer. She began taking photos when her father was enrolled in the Vietnam War. Annie's photos have appeared in many magazines and publications. Her career started when she was enrolled as a staff photographer for "Rolling Stone" magazine. As Annie grew older she started to develop her own type of photography which involved the use of bold colors and unconventional poses that create a long-lasting impression. Annie was enrolled at San Francisco Art Institution to study painting and continued in photography there as well.
style
Annie's photography work contains lots of visual characteristics such as color. Annie focuses a lot on color to make it pop out in a photo to draw the persons eye to the focal point or important part of the photograph. Annie also uses high quality contrast to show lots of shadows and highlight certain areas of the skin or face and make certain areas of the skin and face darker as well. Visual characteristics she also leaves on a persons face is happy and confusion. It leaves confusion because some of her photographs can tell more than one story and they don't no which one they should lesson to.
Philosophy
Annie's goal in her photographs were to create a story. Annie wanted to show emotion for example if she took a photo of someone she wanted it to clearly show the emotion they were feeling. She wanted you to see the subject happy, sad, disappointed, stressed out, lonely ect. Annie's idea behind her work was social. It was social because she wanted to show that even if people are old, poor, rich or even young they can still show emotion. She wanted people to talk about the photo.

Compare and Contrast
One Eye
My piece compares to the one Annie took above because it shows how the subject of the photo is kind of happy. Also you can see the light and dark areas on the skin. However theses to photos are different. They are different because Annie's shows more emotion and tells more of a story and mine does not. They also differ because my photo has a much different filter to it. |
Only Look Down
This piece compares to Annie's above because it shows frustration in both subjects. The could both tell the same story that they are tired And you can see contrast in both. As there are many similar things there are also different things in the two photos. One thing that is different is my subject is more up tight and is not relaxed like Annie's subject is. They also differ in the filter used for the photo and the background differs. |
Wind in her Hair
This photo compares to the one above because I went in and made the eyes bluer to try and match the eyes in Annie's photo. It also compares because there is wind in the subjects her. They differ because my photo is more dark on the skin and Annie's photo is more light on the skin. They also differ because my subject has a small smile on her face and Annie's subject has no smile on her face. The differ on the skin to because Annie's subject has dirt on her skin mine does not. |
Personal Artist statement
The images in the middle and on the left tell a story about a woman. They tell a story that she is tired and a little angry because maybe she has had a hard day at work of her life at home is not perfect. The image on the left can tell a story about a life of a little girl and what she goes through everyday. In my images I tried to show emotion and tell a story. I wanted the viewer to feel the same feeling the subject has.
